Joint Communiqué 2021 CERD election today – Need for greater geographic diversity and competition in future Geneva, Switzerland. 24 June 2021 Today, the 182 States parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) were invited to vote to appoint half of the membership of the UN Committee (CERD) that is functioning as the guardian of that Convention. They elected 4 new experts and re-elected 5 members who were already sitting on the Committee, among a pool of 11 candidates. UN: CERD adopted concluding observations on Belgium at 103rd session
On the 30th of April, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) concluded its 103rd session. At the session, the Committee adopted concluding observations on Belgium. In accordance with its follow-up procedure, The Committee adopted follow-up letters to Iceland, Jordan, Mexico, Poland and the State of Palestine. Read our summary of the follow-up letters. UN: CERD follow-up letters to Iceland, Jordan, Mexico, Poland and the State of Palestine
At the 103rd session which took place online from 19th to 30th April, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) adopted follow-up letters to Iceland, Jordan, Mexico, Poland and the State of Palestine. Within one year of the adoption of concluding observations, States parties are required to provide information on the implementation of specific recommendations identified by the CERD (follow-up recommendations), in accordance with Article 9 (1) of the Convention and rule 65 of the rules of procedure. One of the three categories (satisfactory; partially satisfactory; and not satisfactory) is applied by the CERD to assess information from States parties on the implementation of follow-up recommendations.
