International NGOs condemn reprisals against human rights defenders in Sri Lanka

Together with other international human rights organisations, IMADR co-signed a letter to the President of the Human Rights Council, the Government of Sri Lanka, member and observer states of the Council. The letter calls for the protection of human rights defenders and other individuals from intimidation and reprisals, especially at the occasion of the OHCHR investigation to violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws during the last period of the conflict in Sri Lanka.
The letter also describes a series of recent threats against human rights defenders and individuals in Sri Lanka.

The signatories of the letter are Amnesty International, Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizen Participation, International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), IMADR and International Service for Human Rights (ISHR).
