Nepal: CERD training for Dalit civil society
On the 13th of February, IMADR conducted a training for Nepalese Dalit rights organisations on the civil society participation in the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD). The training was hosted by the Feminist Dalit Organization (FEDO) . After 14 years from the previous review, the periodic reports submitted by the Government of Nepal will be considered by the CERD on 30th April and 1 May at the 95th session in Geneva, Switzerland. The training was conducted in the view to maximise Dalit rights organisations’ capacity to engage with the review process. The CERD is expected issue concluding observations on Nepal on 11th May. Japan: Civil society appeals to Foreign Minister to support UPR recommendations on racial discrimination
Japan NGO Network for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ERD Net) handed in the appeal to the Minister for Foreign Affairs Taro Kono calling for support and implementation of the UPR recommendations concerning the racial discrimination issues. UN: CERD addresses racial discrimination in Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania, Nepal, Peru, Saudi Arabia and Sweden (April 2018)
At its 95th session from 23rd April to 11th May 2018, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) will consider the situation of racial discrimination in following 6 countries. Civil society organisations (CSOs) are encouraged to submit information on Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania, Nepal, Peru, Saudi Arabia and Sweden. UN: CERD adopted concluding observations of Algeria, Australia, Belarus, Jordan, Serbia and Slovakia (December 2017)
On the 8th of December, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) concluded its 94th session. At the session, the CERD adopted concluding observations on Algeria, Australia, Belarus, Jordan, Serbia and Slovakia. *Recommendations with asterisks [*] are one-year follow-up recommendations. Concluding observations, reports of the State parties and other stakeholders are available at the OHCHR website . UPR28: Japan must act upon UPR to combat racial discrimination
PRESS RELEASE 16 November, 2017 The Government of Japan must bring the recommendations from the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) to effective action against racial discrimination.
