International Symposium: UN Guidance Tool on Descent-Based Discrimination

In collaboration with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), IMADR will host the international symposium on “UN Guidance Tool on Descent-Based Discrimination: Key Challenges and Strategic Approaches” on 12th April in Tokyo, Japan. The symposium will bring stakeholders together such as Buraku and Dalit representatives, United Nations, independent expert, academics, parliamentarians, and civil society. More >>

NGOs call on governments to enhance follow-up and membership of UN treaty bodies

As a member organisation of the NGO Network on UN Treaty Bodies (TB-Net), IMADR delivered the TB-Net joint statement at the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council. TB-Net stressed that the ongoing treaty body strengthen process must promote the effectiveness of the follow-up procedures and the quality, independence and diversity of treaty body membership. More >>

“Circular Migration and Youth”, a good practice of civil society in addressing the global issue

On the 14th of March, IMADR and VIS – Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo co-organized the side event on “Circular Migration and Youth” at the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council. The event presented the project implemented by VIS and Don Bosco 2000 in Senegal and Italy which focused on empowering migrant youth to address root causes of migration in the country of origin including poverty. More >>

Training for Dalit civil society in Nepal              On the 13th of February, IMADR conducted a training for Dalit rights organisations in Nepal on the civil society participation in the upcoming country review by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD). Japan must design national action plan against racial discrimination                                         At the adoption of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) outcome on Japan, IMADR urged the Japanese government to design a concrete national action plan, in cooperation with civil society, for the implementation of UPR recommendations on the racial discrimination issues. More >>

Feature story CERD 107th session From 8th to 30th August 2022, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) held its 107th session and reviewed implementation status of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) in Azerbaijan, Benin, Nicaragua, Slovakia, Suriname, United States of America, and Zimbabwe. The Committee also sent letters to Australia, Brazil, Canada, and Colombia under its Early Warning and Urgent Action procedure, and released a statement on the events at the Moroccan-Spanish border.
