Justice for Kazuo Ishikawa, Sayama Case
A rally calling for a retrial of the Sayama Case was held in Tokyo on May 23, the day Kazuo Ishikawa, then 24 years old, was falsely convicted of the murder of a high school girl in 1963. This Case underscores fundamental flaws in the Japanese criminal justice system and the discriminatory stereotyping against Buraku people. Monitor for European Parliament Resolution on EU-Japan Relations
Concerning EU-Japan relations, the Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted the report by Reinhard Bütikofer with the aim to consider the status quo of its relations, including strategic partnership agreement, cooperation between people, mutual social interests, and connectivity. Submissions – 20th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA)
In response to the call for inputs for her next General Assembly report on the 20th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA), IMADR made two submissions to the UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, Ms. E. Tendayi Achiume. Submission focused on the States’ cooperation with the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the promotion of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).
