Statement on the Current Situation in Nepal
September 12, 2025
The International Movement Against All Forms of Discrimination and Racism (IMADR) expresses its deep concern regarding the tragic killing of students and the increasing use of violence in response to public dissent in Nepal. We are particularly troubled by the failure of the authorities to engage in constructive dialogue with the younger generation before taking drastic measures, such as shutting down social media platforms. The reported use of live bullets against unarmed civilians is especially alarming and cannot be justified.
We are also deeply concerned by the present situation in Nepal, which has brought uncertainty and difficulty to the lives of many people. At this challenging time, we stand in solidarity with the people of Nepal and express our heartfelt concern for their safety, well-being, and dignity.
At this sensitive time, we encourage the Government of Nepal to exercise maximum restraint, safeguard fundamental rights, and seek peaceful means of addressing grievances. We believe that constructive dialogue with young people and civil society is the best path forward. We also call upon GEN Z to respect the constitutional processes and be in dialogue to rebuild the confidence in the democratic governance in Nepal.
We sincerely hope for the restoration of peace, stability, and normalcy in Nepal, built on respect for democratic principles and human dignity.
