Application to UN Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples to attend the sessions of the Human Rights Council, UPR and treaty bodies taking place in Geneva between June and September 2016 is now open. Call for Applications

June – September 2016

Dear all,

Please note that the deadline to submit applications to attend the 32nd and 33rd sessions of the Human Rights Council as well as the sessions of treaty bodies taking place in Geneva between July and September 2016 is:  10 April 2016.

Below are the States that will be examined by the Treaty Bodies for the said period:

  • Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) – 64th session (Geneva, 4 – 22 July 2016)

Consideration of State’s report of: Albania, France, Mali, Myanmar, Philippines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Uruguay

  • Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) – 90th session (Geneva, 2 – 26 August 2016)

Consideration of State’s report of: Greece, Lebanon, Pakistan, Paraguay, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, UK

  • Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) –  16th session (Geneva, 15 August – 2 September  2016)

Consideration of State’s report of: Bolivia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Italy, Republic of Moldova, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay

  • Committee on the Rights of Child (CRC) – 73rd session (Geneva, 13 – 30 September 2016)

Consideration of State’s report of: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Estonia, Nauru, New Zealand, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, South Africa

  • Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) – 59th session (Geneva, 19 September – 7 October 2016)

Consideration of State’s report of: Costa Rica, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, Lebanon, Philippines, Poland, Tunisia

Some of the issues that will be discussed at the 32nd session of the Human Rights Council (June 2016) are:

  • Transnational corporations and human rights
  • Prevention and elimination of child, early and forced marriage
  • Half-day panel on violence against indigenous women
  • Adoption of the UPR Working Group reports of: Namibia, Niger, Mozambique, Estonia, Paraguay, Belgium, Denmark, Palau, Somalia, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, Latvia, Sierra Leone, Singapore

Some of the issues that will be discussed at the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council (September 2016) are:

  • Indigenous Peoples (Interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples)
  • Half-day panel on the causes and consequences of violence against indigenous women and girls, including those with disabilities
  • Adoption of the UPR Working Group reports of: Suriname, Greece, Samoa, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Sudan, Hungary, Papua New Guinea, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Antigua and Barbuda, Swaziland, Trinidad and Tobago, Thailand, and Ireland

Applications need to be signed, dated and sent with all the supporting documents to the following email: indigenousfunds@ohchr.org

Please also verify the new criteria for selection established by the members of the Board of Trustees of the Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples to make sure that you are eligible to apply to attend the sessions you are interested in.
